Trust in God’s name

“Some trust in and boast of chariots and some of horses, but we will trust in and boast of the name of the Lord our God.”_

TRUST IS A GREAT virtue which is also the measure of the strength of every relationship. Where there is no trust, there is no true rest. The same is true of our relationship with the LORD. A Lack of trust breeds misunderstanding and insecurity
There are those who do not trust absolutely in our God, but decide to trust other things and beings. But truth is, there’s no real security outside of God.
As a shepherd boy, King David who authored the Psalm under study knew exactly what it was to trust in the name of his God.
He was a mighty warrior from his childhood. He fought and killed beasts; even lions and bears with his bare hands all in the power of the name he trusted in so much. Some times he even used such ridiculous and “insignificant” weapons like the sling and stone he used in his victorious combat against Goliath, the huge giant! (1 Sam 17: 34-35; 45).
In human history, it is a known fact that just a mere small stone couldn’t really kill any man let alone a giant of almost ten feet tall, but it worked for David because he used it in the name of the LORD! (1Sam17:4, 49).
David never took the name of his God lightly. He didn’t use it as a slogan or a swear word; instead he had great reverence for it and stood in awe of it. He “hallowed” that Name. To him, it was personal, he knew it, trusted fully in it, relied upon it and boasted in this wonderful, powerful Name.

Some trust in “their horses and chariots”, in their own abilities, knowledge, wisdom and strength; but the believer in Christ Jesus must trust in the Name of the Lord. Yes, we can put our trust in the name of the Lord! For God has highly exalted His Son, and given Him a Name above every other name (Phil 2:9). This is a Name we can trust with our whole heart. Apart from that name, there’s nothing that can give us real protection or security and salvation. The name of the LORD is a strong tower, the righteous run into it, and they are saved. Besides, it is a strong and firm foundation; all other ground is shaky, “sinking sand.

No weapon or situation can match the powerful Name of Jesus. It is true that we are surrounded by wicked people and spiritual wickedness from different realms, still there should be no cause for panic or fear. All we need is the revelation of the Name, our decision to revere and trust in it and use it (Col 3:17). For the Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous possess it and is safe. You have the audacity to use the Name of Jesus in your favour at all times. The Name declared in faith will never fail (Acts 3:16). The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
