” And so dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s most holy place because of the blood of Jesus. By His death, Jesus opened a new and life -giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place”. Heb 10:19-20
WHAT an invitation! Free, uninhibited access through the parted curtain. This has great significance, and can be better appreciated by learning about how the curtain was parted in the OT.
The thickness of this curtain was said to be a handbreadth, and woven of 72 twisted plaits, each plait consisting of 24 threads
In the OT, the High Priests couldn’t part the curtain to the Holy of Holies on their own. It was 60 feet long and 30 feet wide. Two of them were woven every year, and according to the exaggerated language of the time it required 300 sanctified priests to manipulate it.
In Matt 27, this curtain was torn into two from top to bottom.
Paul is not here merely referring to the physical curtain which is a shadow of the heavenly one, he is touching on it’s symbolic significance. Only the High Priest was qualified to enter alone after purifying himself first. And he risked death anytime he entered.
You and l are not qualified to enter therein, but for Christ’s atoning sacrifice. Now we have received the invitation to come in boldly!
We do not draw near based on our own merit. Our boldness and confidence to approach the Throne of grace is only through the Curtain parted by Christ, whose followers we are; and we follow after Him right into God’s Presence. We are able to do so without fear, for we enjoy acceptance from God, and we are not seen as intruding or trespassing.
Instead, we are recognized as following Christ, the Heir to the Throne. We are His special invited guests, we can dine at the Royal table and get served by the Royal servants. We are hosted and all courtesies and comforts are extended to us. We are followers of the Christ, and have only followed Him, Who is standing before the Father, acknowledging us by introducing us to Him, and mediating between us and the Father (Heb 8:6).
Access to that kind of fellowship is strictly by followership of Christ. Open only to disciples of Christ. Remember His words in John 15:8
” *When you bear much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father* “.
As true disciples of Christ, we are warmly welcomed into the Throne room because we also bring great glory to God.
It is not enough to only believe on the name of Jesus. We must also be true disciples, faithful followers of the Christ.
May we not be found wanting as followers of the Lamb.
